How to play in 30 seconds

  1. Move cards between the seven columns in descending order, alternating colours. A red 7 goes on a black 8.
  2. Turn over hidden cards by moving the face-up card that covers them.
  3. Only a King (or a run that starts with a King) can go into an empty column.
  4. Click the stock in the top-left to draw. The top card of the waste is always available to play.
  5. Send cards to the four foundations at the top right, Ace first, then up in the same suit. Fill all four to win.

Draw 1 or draw 3?

Draw 1 turns one card at a time, so you see every card in the stock on each pass. Draw 3 turns three at a time and only the top card is playable, which buries the others until you move it. Most players start with draw 1 and move to solitaire turn 3 once they want a harder game.

Frequently asked questions

Is this solitaire free to play?

Yes. There is nothing to download and nothing to pay for. Open the page and start playing. An account is optional and is only needed if you want your times on the leaderboard.

What is Klondike solitaire?

Klondike is the classic solitaire card game most people simply call "solitaire". You move cards between seven tableau columns to build four foundation piles from Ace up to King, one pile for each suit.

Can I undo my moves?

Yes. Press Undo (or the U key) as many times as you like during a game. It steps back one move at a time, including draws from the stock.

What is the difference between draw 1 and draw 3?

In draw 1 you turn over one card from the stock at a time, which is the easier game. In draw 3 you turn over three cards at once and can only play the top one, which makes planning matter much more. Use the Draw 1 / Draw 3 switch above the table to change.

Does the game save my progress?

Yes. Your current game, your statistics and your settings are stored in your browser on this device, so you can close the page and carry on later. Clearing your browsing data removes them.

What is the daily challenge?

Everyone gets the same deal each day. Switch to Daily above the table, play it, and if you are signed in your time goes on that day's leaderboard.

Is every deal winnable?

Not necessarily. Deals are shuffled at random, and some random deals cannot be won however well you play. If a game feels stuck, use Hint, try Undo, or start a new deal.

Can I replay the same deal?

Yes. Open Settings and choose Restart this deal to put the current deal back to its opening position so you can try a different line of play.

How is the score worked out?

This game uses standard scoring: points for moving cards to the foundations and turning over hidden cards, and a penalty for moving cards back off a foundation. The full list is on the how to play page.
